VIPeds

VIPeds - Very Important Pediatrics
At Fauquier Health, we hold a very special place in our hearts for the children who visit us for care and treatment. We believe all of our pediatric patients are VIPs. That’s why we have created the VIPeds program to address the special needs of children under the age of 18.

Hospitals can be scary, particularly for youngsters. We strive to create a child-friendly environment and to treat our young patients in a special manner to make their stay with us as comfortable and non-stressful as possible. From kid-friendly room décor to video games to play while in bed to flexible meal options, we strive to make our children feel at home during those traumatic times when they really would rather be home.

We offer all inpatient children a private room with built-in sleeping accommodations for Mom and Dad as well as room service with a special children's menu. We also offer a variety of fun and relaxing diversions – such as backpacks filled with age-appropriate toys and games and use of a wide variety of video games and DVDs – to help children temporarily forget about their illnesses and treatment. We also offer a variety of kid-approved CD-ROM computer games, creative art expression, and children’s TV stations, such as Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Animal Planet, and TV Land. This kid-friendly theme is present in the pediatric emergency rooms, which have large wall murals of a rainforest and seascape. Even X-ray machines – decorated to look like a giraffe - are designed to entertain.

Recognizing that treating young patients is more involved than just modifying the room décor, staff training is a major component of our VIPeds program. Our pediatric staff receive ongoing training on topics such as medication dosing, pediatric safety devices, pediatric IV placement and care, age-based care, and triaging pediatric patients.

The VIPeds program allows Fauquier Hospital to provide the same compassionate, high- quality, personalized care our community has grown to expect, but in a child-friendly atmosphere. Our goal is to encourage awareness of the unique needs of pediatric patients so that we can provide a reassuring environment that will promote healing.

It also has a 50% ownership in two joint ventures:  Fauquier Health Home Medical Care, a retail outlet offering medical, home health, and wellness supplies, and the Cancer Center at Lake Manassas, a state-of-the-art radiation treatment facility. What is the difference between a Medical Center and a Hospital?

In general, a medical center oftentimes includes several types of health facilities, such as hospitals, medical schools, and research facilities. The focus is larger and not completely on patient care. Hospitals, on the other hand, are smaller and staffed with health care experts and are focused on patients’ treatment and health.
